THE CORNUCOPIA STORY:

How it All Started

My name is Javiera Garcia, a fiber artist born and raised in Chile. In 2016, I moved to the United States to build a life with my wife — carrying with me a deep connection to art and handmade tradition.

Creativity has always lived in my hands. Encouraged by my mother and grandmother's example, I grew up surrounded by making. When my mother gifted me a loom for my 13th birthday, everything shifted. Fiber became more than material — it became language.

As a self-taught artist, I began exploring weaving, embroidery, punch needle, and eventually tufting. Each technique expanded the way I could translate emotion, memory, and nature into texture. What started as curiosity evolved into a lifelong devotion to fiber as a form of expression.

In 2021, while six months pregnant, I asked my wife for a tufting kit. I was drawn to the intentional, almost meditative process of turning yarn into texture. I practiced daily, learning through repetition and instinct.

Soon after, my family moved to Mexico for nine months. My tufting frame stayed behind, but Oaxaca offered something equally transformative. Immersed in its artistic traditions, I began to see color and symbolism differently. That season helped me find my style.

I discovered that my work is rooted in nature —. Bold palettes, organic shapes, everyday beauty.

My pieces are not just decoration. They are meant to live with you — to be stepped on, leaned against, cared for. Art that invites interaction, not just admiration.

I sketch and refine my ideas, translating instinct and inspiration into form. Once the composition feels right, I project the design onto fabric and begin the tufting process — which can take several days to complete.

After tufting, I apply adhesive to secure the fibers, trim and shape each section, and carefully attach the backing. The final step is carving — sculpting the surface to create depth, movement, and dimension.

What emerges is more than a rug or wall piece. It is a tactile expression of my vision — an invitation to bring warmth, texture, and handcrafted presence into everyday life
